Breakin' up with his girlfriend

Our student testimonies are rolling in about how much they have learned this year from their coach and through our Leadership Summit 2009 curriculum, Break the Silence.

This reflection is from Seope

"Leadership Summit has changed me a lot because I have stopped bullying people, talking or saying ugly things to people, stopped watching programs I shouldn’t even watch. The one thing I’m glad I didn’t do is trying to smoke, now I insist on not smoking. I also broke up with my girlfriend because now I see that if I was to continue with her as my girlfriend it would come to a point that we would experience how sex is. I want to go to church each and everyday.

I have shared something with another leaner - the friend he was walking with was not good. He smoked and will [eventually] want him to smoke or drink alcohol. But I showed him that sometimes you can be trapped by your friends.

The most important thing I learned is never have sex before marriage. Choose the friends you live with, sometimes they can make you do things you couldn’t think of."

They Love God

The amazing testimonies keep coming in from teachers at our Leadership Summit schools. God is doing an amazing work! It is incredible to be a part of it.

Mrs. Matches, from Clubview Intermediate School, reports:

“There has been a great change at the school because of Leadership Summit. Most of the learners have changed their negative attitude towards their peers, teachers as well as their parents. Amongst other things they behave like leaders of tomorrow, the respect their teachers, schoolmates and parents. They love their teachers, colleagues, parents and most of all they love God. They know what’s good and what’s not, we as teachers no longer have to solve problems like fighting amongst themselves, smoking cigarettes or dagga. They are motivated and interested in school work. During the weekends they come to school to discuss, counsel their colleagues who needs that, do Bible study, sing chorused and hymns. Our school benefited a lot from Leadership Summit.”

Disciplined

Not only has Leadership Summit helped decrease the rate of teen pregnancy, drug, and alcohol abuse, but it has also helped students become more disciplined.

“Learner behaviour was improving amongst learners who attended the LS; which was a great help to us as educators because they helped us with the others who are in the intermediate phase to guide them as well. Learners have become honest to their educators and open to discuss their problem with educators.

There has been a change in the case of drug abuse. We had learners who confessed that they use drugs and they need our help. We had no cases of teen pregnancy at all. Learners are motivated to love a life of integrity because they now attend church regularly.

The change that has happened in our school this year because of LS is that learners are becoming disciplined. They are also cooperative and committed in their school work.”

Everyone goes to the Rhino

“The biggest rally in the country has again attracted much attention and the authorities, many of whom have changed with the new political evolution, and the good citizens there are anxiously awaiting this influx of happy bikers. This is one rally no-one wants to miss and, as the saying goes, everyone goes to the Rhino.

The Rhino is, for those who have never been, a social gathering, traditionally attracting the more mature, responsible motorcyclist with the average age more than 35, but all nice people of all ages are welcome to attend, families included. This is an “open” all welcome rally with several live bands, disco, flea market stalls and exhibitions, a bar, food and refreshments for a weekend of fun and togetherness and holiday and happiness. There will be a huge marquee on the soccer fields, a shenanigan street again for wheelies and drags and again a mass ride from the site, around town, down the hooligan street and back. The Bike SA rallies have a wide variety of food stalls including pizza, schwarma, calamari, German worst, eisbein, pancakes, chip 'n dip, doughnuts, Brian's burgers, pies, boerewors rolls, special coffees, sweets, biltong, nuts...

The site is large enough to accommodate back-up cars and bakkies for clubs and wives to carry tents and things. We have hired the entire site for the week, including the area across the river. We salute those true bikers who don’t use cars and carry everything on their bikes and backs, but the site is large enough to accommodate back-up cars so that riders can enjoy the ride more, especially with modern superbikes not being able to carry much.”

You know I had way too much fun!!!

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween

We dress up for all sorts of events, special parties, and just do it for fun, so of course we let our imaginations go wild with Halloween.

The interns brought the Bible to life representing the first 7 days of creation. They got real creative and each one represented a day, carrying the load of 2 different things, i.e. light and dark, water and sky, stars and day, trees and fruit.

The pictures speak for themselves. We all had a great time!
