Valentine

I got a real special Valentine today....

with a "P.S.'I'm cute" candybar and a special message inside......
"Love is like a booger. You keep picking at it until you get it, then wonder what to do with it."

What was your special Valentine today?

It's Friday

It's Friday, and I'm a little pooped out. I don't seem to be moving near as fast I did at the start of the week. I feel a little like him........

A day late

We are behind in almost everything here in Africa. Shows, news, fashion, sports, time, internet, weather – you name it, I probably haven’t heard of it or seen it.

You find creative ways to get around ‘being behind.’ ….and since everyone else I live with is in the same boat, I don’t feel so far behind, except when………

......it comes down to Sporting Events! I love sports. I love to watch them, not so much play them, but watch. I cheer them on, I have favorite teams and players.

So, during the most watched football game all around the world, I was one of those watching it hours away from the actual event, making sure I didn’t get on the Internet for fear I would see who won, totally defeating the whole purpose of watching the game. It’s more than just a Superbowl here at Thrive, it is a family tradition. Together, all of us gather around a big screen, to watch an event billions have already seen. We eat lots of great food, pick a team to root for, yell and scream, hoop and holler, and cheer our team on to victory. This year was no different – piling into the house, all 17 of us sat in our strategically designed theater seating with couches and cushy seats watching the overly sized players on the jumbo screen. It was a real good time….even if we were a day late.

Beautiful Feet

My brother-in-law, Dustin, recently sent this encouraging word to me…..

Romans 10:14-15: “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"

It got me thinking……what things have my feet been up to this month? Here are just a few:
**Pressing down the gas pedal on multiple trips to Johannesburg to pick up 3 different people who are here on a staff trial
**Running down to the gate for some fresh air, exercise time, and special time with God, in the warm summer sun (I hear it is snowing and bitterly cold on the other side of the world?)
**Walking up to the classroom to teach our 8 new interns all about Leadership Summit and their involvement with the coaches this year. Go and meet them here
**Moving to a different office space on the base
**Enjoying wearing my fabulously fashionable rain boots out in the pouring (and much needed and prayed for) rain
**Jumping up and down at getting to spend time with the coaches after much too long, hearing all about their great holidays, passionately sharing with them our plans for 2009

Although it might not seem that my feet were bringing good news, it is my hearts desire to display Christ in all that I do, wherever my feet may tread. I know that the tasks and the places my feet have gone in the past month have been in preparation for what God is doing to bring the good news to the people of South Africa. I am privileged to be His feet, doing whatever He needs me to do on this precious soil.
