The funny looking dog is a jackal. We noticed in the lion pride the females did all of the work. Dad slept...

I am not going to itemize the safari but there is one day that I just have to tell you about!!
Serafina signed us up for a trip to a Maasai Village. I am not able to recommend this because it is a shameless tourist trap. But I don’t remember ever laughing so much.

A Maasai custom is to welcome foreigners by adorning them in traditional Maasai jewelry and dress and including the visitors in the welcoming ritual. (This seemed like tourist nonsense, but in fact, weeks later Elaina and I were welcomed in a remote village much the same way!)

So to be clear, we were not laughing at the Maasai custom, which were intriguing and mysterious, but how utterly awkward we were. Pictures and videos are worth a thousand words.

Jumping Suitors

This next one needs some explaining. Jumping is apparently a key attribute of a good husband. So, to win a bride, a young man must prove himself in a jumping contest.

Elaina's First Husband

This is how we chose Elaina’s first husband!
